With the festival exhibition Mutation, FIBER presents the work of a selection of artists who reflect on the (im)possibility of humankind to adapt to a planet in radical transformation. It uses the biological phenomenon of mutation - the alteration of genetic material - as a metaphorical lens to ground us into a more-than-human reality. Revealing the mutating understanding of relations between humans, nature, and technology, captured by art and design.
What can we learn from a semi-fictional story about the colonial discovery of rubber and another virus with far-reaching consequences? How do we step out of our individualistic self-image and learn about fluidity and interconnectedness between all living things? What happens to humans and their cultures when they terraform a planet's DNA?
This spring, leading up to FIBER Festival 2022, Mutation opens on June 8th at Dokzaal Amsterdam. From 8 till 19 June 2022, the selection of works will be presented in the context of a two-year exploration which started at our adapted three-day festival in 2021. Mutation contributes to an understanding of how humans are able to coexist in, and with the rapidly changing world around us.
The opening of Mutation takes place on Wednesday June 8th from 17:00. On this evening, you can visit the Exhibition free of charge. The opening is hydrated by Oedipus Brewing, Lemonaid & ChariTea.
