Flora Yin Wong (Live)
She/her — UK
Thursday 16 June (Opening Night) — Likeminds
London-born, multidisciplinary producer and DJ, Flora Yin-Wong creates worlds of sound that emerge from recordings of cities, natural environments along with playing various instruments. Her releases and performances are described as a rich auditory compilation. Layering her sound with inspiration drawn from her multinational life experiences, spiritual & personal history, and ambient field recordings, she creates an intersection of sound through the use of Cantonese pop music, temple chimes, and the Chinese Yangqin stringed instrument.
Her debut album Holy Palm (2020) on Modern Love seems to be a record of traveling across our planet, faded memories and with it a kind of blurred, sonic diary. Various recordings - from airports, radio fragments, cab rides, conversations in a supermarket to natural landscapes and whale sounds - come together in new constellations. In recent releases such as The Sacrifice (2021) and Sacro Bosco (2022) she captures mutating relationships between natural landscapes and humans; from the impact of climate change to myths and spirituality. Last year she published her first book Liturgy, in which she works with religion, dreams, and fragmented memories in relation to perception and intuition.
Flora’s track record includes performances at Berghain, Boiler Room, Garage Noord, and Somerset House. FIBER Festival will soon be added to this list, as Flora will be performing at our opening night Thursday, June 16, setting the tone for an transformative few days.
