Australian SOFT CENTRE visits FIBER Festival 2022

We are excited to announce a very special collaboration that comes together during FIBER Festival 2022. Hailing all the way from Sydney, a delegation of the SOFT CENTRE crew visits Amsterdam as part of their European tour on several festival dates. SOFT CENTRE is FIBER’s Australian sibling in exploring new ideas in sound, art and digital media. The organisation hosts both an annual festival and collaborative projects, for which they present works of artists across a variety of practices to develop cutting edge cross-disciplinary performances, public installations and programs.

SOFT CENTRE joins us on a number of occasions, kicking off with an audiovisual performance from DJ and composer CORIN with visual artist Tristan Jalleh at Muziekgebouw on May 20th. In the world premiere of  Lux Aeterna, sounds are imagined as sentient beings - each sonic element taking on a life of its own. Industrial textures become embodied creatures swimming through space, like sentinels. Another performer joining us from the SOFT CENTRE entourage is avant-garde minimalist producer Makeda, who will perform during our Music & Performance Programme at MACA, on the 17th of June.

A day later, when FIBER Festival 2022 makes a free fall into the night, CORIN returns to the arena, this time behind the booth in Amsterdam Noord club Garage Noord. Each production is speculative fiction, drawing on sci-fi, classical music composition, contemporary club culture, and ancestral myths tied to her Filipino heritage. Closing the club in the early Sunday hours will be Thick Owens, the artistic director of SOFT CENTRE and label head of ULTRAVIRUS. Expect high-speed roller-coaster rides along mutating electronic music styles; from medieval and fantasy influences, various new core genres to deep psy-influenced hyper-rhythms.

Before all this sonic and visual ferocity turns up, the SOFT CENTRE team hosts a panel during our professional’s programme ‘Audiovisual Arts Assembly’ (Fri 17 June) to share about their activities down under.
