Multidisciplinary musical artist Sofie Birch synthesizes her interest in the healing nature of sounds and vibrations along with the experimentation of electronic hardware. By enabling the listener to bid farewell to the “notions of temporal familiarity and gravitational orientation”, she guides us through the expansion of mind, body through auditory and visual experiences. Hailing from Copenhagen, Sophie played numerous international festivals like Unsound, CTM and Roskilde. She has blessed the decks at Retreat Radio, MMH Radio, Noods Radio, and on a monthly basis she soothes our souls as resident on NTS.
We will be welcoming Sofie Birch at Likeminds for her live performance in the context of her soon to be released record Holotropica (May 27). Holotropic means “moving towards wholeness”. It’s a vision of a place of wholeness, serenity and clarity. The work started in 2018 when Sofie’s friend got pregnant, unlocking special emotions in her. Sofie spent 14 days in a forest house on her own, practicing meditation and sketching the first pieces of the album. While creating this album, Sofie Birch herself became pregnant in 2021 and experienced a strong sense of transformation. This transformation, although (still) tied to the female sex, is universal and a process we each should undergo in order to love without the noise of self.
Birch will be a part of the festival opening night, as she is the perfect fit to set the tone for mind expanding music and performances in the coming days.
